St. Louis, MO - The St. Louis Scott Gallagher (SLSG) Girls ECNL Program wrapped up the first month of ECNL League play this past weekend walking away from the field/s having achieved some great numbers. The Navy and Green programs combined, humbly post an overall record of 35-7-6 and have outscoring their opponents by a total of 138-28.
SLSG ECNL Director Ralph Richards was extremely proud of the girls’ commitment both on and off of the field. “These amazing young women have already invested so much time and energy into creating a program they can feel proud of each day. And I don't think It’s ever easy moving from preseason straight into the heart of the regular ECNL season, but each of our teams continue to experience success on the field because of the girls sacrifice and focus. Not only that, but they (each group) have truly come together as a "team" and for that, we are really proud.”
League play began September 11th & 12th, with the SLSG ECNL U15-U18/19 programs taking on Midwest United and Liverpool FC IA Michigan while the U13-U14 age groups played against Minnesota Thunder and Sporting Blue Valley from Kansas City. With seven wins on each day, the SLSG ECNL Program enjoyed an overall record of 14-6-4 (W-D-L) on the weekend and massed 58 Goals scored in the 24 matches.
This past weekend, both ECNL Navy & ECNL Green traveled to Omaha, Nebraska to play against the Sporting Iowa and Gretna Elite Academy ECNL programs. The weekend turned out to be a historic road trip for the program earning 64 of a possible 72 points. And on a special note, in the 24 weekend games, SLSG Navy and Green combined to outscored their opponents by an aggregate score of 79-15.
SLSG Girls Director Scott McDoniel was most impressed with the feel of the program/s environment. “Seeing younger girls come out three hours early to watch older girls' games, and older players staying late for younger girls' games is always special to witness. And beyond that, seeing players, teammates, from all six age groups attending games for both the Green and Navy programs, well, that really shows how connected this family has quickly become.”
And on a final note, SLSG Green ECNL Program Director, Shawn Hewitt, loved the determination and purpose reflected in each teams performance. “Every weekend in the ECNL presents a challenge, especially when on the road. But our girls, across the entire platform, came out ready to compete and play within the team concept. For me, I think the overall willingness to fight for each other inside relatively new teams, has been most impressive.”
The SLSG ECNL Program returns home and enjoys a week off from ECNL League play.
