SAINT LOUIS SCOTT GALLAGHER
St. Louis MO - “That’s simple” responded Scott McDoniel, SLSG Director of Coaching and ECNL Coach, “From day one, Alli was relentless energy”.
Alli Klug, a four year member of the 97/98 SLSG ECNL squad, finished her collegiate career this past spring with just a few honors, maybe the biggest being the most recent. Alli has been nominated for NCAA Woman of the Year.
On her way to being nominated for Woman of the Year, Alli ended her days at SLU tied for the school record of 86 career games played and she was the first player in Atlantic 10 women’s soccer history to be named Defensive Player of the Year THREE (3) times. And just as impressive, in 2019 Alli was named SLU’s Most Outstanding Female Senior Student Athlete, United Soccer Coaches All-East Region First Team, and was on the Hermann Trophy Watch List. Klug is the most decorated athlete in the program's history, being named to the A-10 All-Championship Team, All-Conference, and All-Academic Team.
In speaking with Scott McDoniel, he had this to say. “I know I can speak for our entire club when I say we’re proud of Alli and all she has accomplished the past several years. Honestly, when looking back on Alli and her SLSG team, they were all very talented. But Alli always brought a little extra to training and games. She was filled with major energy, a special willingness to work, battle and compete. She was incredibly versatile on the field, very dedicated to her teammates, and a valuable member of this program. And something we all admired was that Alli had a talent for making big plays, on both sides of the ball, in the biggest games. I’ll always be grateful to her parents, Paul and Christine, for being so positive, supportive, and having trust in the club, and for Alli’s loyalty to her team. It’s so gratifying to see all of these young ladies from that 97/98 team, graduating college with such great accomplishments under their belt, and moving into the next phase of their life.“
Alli studied Exercise science and Physical Therapy while at SLU and among other things, the Senior captain led teams in Relay for Life, and dedicated time to Campus Kitchen Project and, St. Louis Special Needs Soccer Association.
