Alec Venhaus Stands Out at Boys ECNL San Diego Showcase
April 30, 2019 • St. Louis Scott Gallagher Illinois recently sent its 2002 Boys Elite team to San Diego to compete in the Boys ECNL San Diego Showcase. The team faced high level competition on a national stage in front of college coaches. Alec Venhaus, 2002 Boys Elite Goalkeeper, was recognized as a stand out performer for his efforts in the first game of the weekend against OC Surf Soccer Club by Top Drawer Soccer. Top Drawer Soccer released an article praising stand out performers from the first day of competition on their website (click HERE to view article). Venhaus made numerous saves throughout the game to hold the opposition to two goals. “Alec has performed brilliantly throughout the entire season. He has made countless saves over the course of the season that many keepers his age would not save. His ability to anticipate and react quickly gives him the opportunity to prevent goals on chances you would think are going to result in a goal against. At times, I can only shake my head in disbelief.” stated Kyle Riebeling the 2002 Boys Elite Head Coach and SLSG Illinois’ Boys ECNL Director.
Alec repeated his stand out play in the second and third games of the showcase. “He kept the team in each game and gave us every opportunity to find a result. Alec deserves the recognition and I expect that many took notice of his stellar performances.” said Riebeling. The SLSG Illinois Boys ECNL program currently has four games remaining in their Boys ECNL Midwest Conference schedule; May 11th vs. Eclipse Select, May 12th vs. FC Wisconsin, and two derby games vs. SLSG Missouri ECNL to be scheduled.
