St. Louis Scot Gallagher’s Josh Sargent scored both goals in the U.S. U-17 National Team’s 2-1 win over Malaysia earlier today in India. The win sends the USA through to the finals of the U-16 AIFF Youth Cup.
Sargent earned his first goal from a penalty in the 17th minute. The second goal came just before halftime as Sargent managed to put his head on a looped cross from the right side and direct the ball past the Malaysian goalkeeper.
“He’s a tremendous player, a typical number 9 where you can put a lot of the scoring load for our team on his shoulders.” said Sargent’s Academy coach Jon Boyer. “He’s able to create opportunities, goals, and chances. He’s an extremely talented and gifted player and I’m not surprised he’s doing it at the highest level.”
USA will meet South Korea in the cup final on Wednesday, May 25 at 9:30 a.m. central time.
