Collinsville, IL – SLSG Illinois Junior, Ambere Barnett, just recently received the call she has anticipated and hoped for over the last few seasons. Barnett, a junior stand out at Owensboro Catholic High School for the last 3 years, and current member of SLSG Illinois ECNL Program, has been called in to the March Camp for the U19 Youth Women’s National Team in Sunrise Florida.
While this is the first US Youth Women’s National Team call up for Barnett, this is not the first time she has been invited to a high level event. She attended a Costa Rica event with the Kentucky Regional ODP Team in 2013; the US Youth Soccer Olympic Development Program-Girls National Training Camp in Arizona in 2013; a tournament in Boca Raton Florida with ODP Region II in 2013; and the Nike National ID2 Camp in Connecticut in Fall of 2012. Four years ago, Barnett, who travels three and a half hours to train and play for SLSG Illinois, made the commitment to improve as a player at the highest possible level in the club’s ECNL Program. While the commitment to her development has not always been easy, it is one that Barnett willingly made in order to continue working toward her goals of playing collegiately, and hopefully, as a professional in the future. SLSG Illinois Girls Director of Coaching, Shawn Hewitt said, “We are so proud of Ambere and her efforts over the past 4 years. She is not only a very talented player that exhibits a high level of commitment and passion, but she is also a great person on-and-off the field. We are so excited for her, the opportunity to represent SLSG Illinois, and to be recognized on the national stage.”
U19 Head Coach, Jitka Klimkova, has called 26 players into camp taking place March 25th- April 1st. Barnett is one of three players invited in from the ECNL Midwest Conference, but the full 26 player roster is peppered with ECNL players from across the country.
Although Ambere has received individual recognition at various playing levels including ODP, ECNL PDP, and high school soccer, the call-up to the U19 Youth Women’s National Team Camp is a dream come true and a tribute to her commitment in soccer and her work ethic in training. Ambere said, “No words can explain how happy I am! It is a dream come true! I am so thankful for all my coaches, my friends, and my family that have pushed me and supported me through it all. Nerves are high right now as Saturday approaches, but I am using it to my advantage.” To see full roster and details pertaining to this U19 Women’s National Team Camp, please use link below.
